Prodrome, aura, migraine, postdrome separate nd end times#74

I’d love to track the various phases of the migraine syndrome separately. For me the postdrome is the longest part of my migraine syndrome and it’s misleading to think the migraine ends when the traditional symptoms are over ( eye pain, neck pain, headache). That would show the true degree of disability.

Great suggestion. It would be beneficial to be able to track the various phases separately for the individual having the migraine. This feature would also provide more accurate information for the medical providers or researchers evaluating the data/migraine reports.

I know that I underestimate the overall amount of time in the migraine syndrome because I end the time when the headache phase is over but I still have two or more days in the postdrome phase. And if I end it after the postdrome phase it appears that the acute medication isn’t working. I’ve always been confused on how to use the app. Also my prodrome phase can occur for up to two days. When you add it all up it makes sense to separate the phases in order to determine whether the acute medicine is working and whether the preventative medicine is lessening the total amount of time for the overall syndrome.

Hi everyone,
When I need do track different phases of my attacks, I log them one by one in my records. For example, I have an attack type called “prodrome” where I will adda all the details related to this phase. Then I will end this record and start a new record for my “migraine” phase.

Do you think this could be useful for what you had in mind?
What level of detail do you need for each phase?
Do you need those information mostly for you or for your doctor?

Looking forward to hearing back from you 🤗

Wishing you a migraine-free day, with Love 💕

Yes that helps for the prodrome but not the phase after the migraine ends, postdrome. Also the questions you answer for the migraine phase don’t necessarily apply to the prodrome and postdrome phases. I’m mostly interested in the time I spend in each phase . My neurologist is trying to determine whether my preventative meds are useful. I’ve been thru oral medication and three different injectables.I think tracking the three phases is most useful for this. The acute medication can be determined to be useful with the migraine section.

Thanks

Personally I’d like to have the option to show different calendars for the different things (prodrome, migraine, postdrome, sleep). It gets confusing when I’m trying to look at the calendar for an overall summary, as I’m trying to determine if my medication is working over time. I want to track migraines only for the medication but pro/postdrome just for myself so I can work out lifestyle changes on my own. It’s helpful to have an aggregate view as well for full attack duration but I’m having to track some migraine things outside of this app and I’d love to track everything here.

I completely agree with everything you’ve said. I’ve come to the conclusion that I may need use a calendar app with migraine buddy to keep a daily log of pre/post and migraine days. Migraine buddy has great features but is really structured to study the medications and triggers for the actual migraine phase. After watching the Migraine Summit I realized I’d rather give my neurologist the number of days without any aspect of my migraine instead of the days I take migraine medications. I’m underestimating the days I feel miserable when I only count the time in the acute phase.

Thanks @Kim and @Cory Fronte for your suggestions and comments. You can make use of the migraine impact report’s calendar for this purpose. I recommend that you follow the “Chronic Migraine Recording Tactics” program in Discover>Programs. It will help you choose the optimal way for you to record your attacks and share your reports with your doctor. For a start, I suggest that you do NOT take the “Impact Reports” recording-only option. I hope that the French accent in the videos is not too hard to understand :)

I agree with Kim and Cory in needing to track the phases of the migraine to get a true picture of the impact but I don’t want to end and start the phases. Would it be possible to use a time stamp to separate the phases and still everything to the event? Also, I am still learning the definitions of the types of migraine and the phases , is it possible to provide a definition for each in the app? Maybe we could double tap the icon and a definition pops up.

Jenny, the thing is, it’s all “migraine phase”. Migraine is the name of the disease which includes all symptoms and phases of the disease. “Migraine” doesn’t mean “headache pain”. Unfortunately most of the general public thinks “migraine” means headache, when we know it’s SO much more. It’s so important for us as patients and you as the app provider to understand this basic principal. Thanks for considering!
